1. They were shaken pretty well by the earthquake.
2. Heating oil, because it's winter and it's quite cold in the north.

4. He says that compared to how we can imagine other countries would react (including the USA), Japan has systmes, personnel and equipment and they are doing as well as they can in very difficult circumstances.
